  World Day for Consecrated Life
February 2, 2011

Consecrated Life is a gift to the Church and for the world

The Day for Consecrated Life is meant to be a day of prayer in support of those men and women consecrated to God for the good of all humanity. For those, whose lives are given totally as an offering to the Lord and to his Kingdom.

The consecrated life is not only a gift to the Church, but it is a gift for the World.

The religious and other consecrated men and women strive to be like the hands, mind and heart of Christ, making Him present today in our world and carrying on the saving mission of the Redeemer.

It is a reason and special meaning for celebrating the Day for Consecrated Life on the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord. As Jesus was presented or dedicated in the temple, forty days after his birth, consecrated men and women unite themselves with Christ in this dedication or consecration. United with the Consecrated One, Jesus, the Messiah, they become instruments of salvation for others and living signs of the supremacy of God, to whom all belongs.

Those consecrated to God by the vows of chastity, poverty and obedience seek to live their Baptismal promises more intensely.  May they have the grace to persevere in their commitment to the Lord and to serve their brothers and sisters with open hearts and willing spirits.
