Hermana Isabel Valtierra, Our Lady of light Monastery, Denver, CO.

Sr. Maria Isabel Valtierra, O.S.C.Cap., founding member of Denver’s Capuchin Poor Clare community, died surrounded by her sisters in her room at Our Lady of Light Monastery, 3325 Pecos St., on Nov. 22.

Both the sisters and friars remember Isabel’s broad, signature smile.  At a Mass celebrated at her deathbed, Fr. David Gottschalk said, “All she would have to do to get into heaven was smile. No one can resist that smile.”

After a funeral Mass, celebrated at St. Patrick’s Oratory on Nov. 29, Feast of All Saints of the Franciscan Order, Sister’s body was buried in the Capuchin plot at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Wheat Ridge.
