SAN FELIX DE CANTALICE

Nació en Cantalice ciudad de Italia en el año 1515. Hijo de padres campesinos muy humildes. Desde muy niño Félix le encantaba que le leyesen vidas de los santos padres del desierto, siempre invitaba a sus vecinos a incrementar la fe en Cristo, orar con devoción y amar a María Santísima. Quienes lo escuchaban lo seguían y admiraban desde entonces como un gran don muy especial camino a la santidad. En cuanto pudo ayudó en su casa a aliviar la pobreza, con solo poco más de 10 años, decide tomar camino hacia Cittaducale donde trabaja como pastor, después en el campo labor que le encantaba y facilitaba su oración y contemplación.

Un día escucha una voz interior que le habla: “Soy el ángel del Señor. Y el quiere que entres a su servicio”. En donde el padre guardián, lo aconseja que baya con el vicario. No sabiendo donde encontrarlo decide regresar al trabajo, por segunda vez le vuelve a hablar el ángel, “vete a Rieti” dónde esta una nueva comunidad, un padre agustino lo invitaba a su comunidad vente con nosotros, pero Félix contesto:” O capuchino o nada”.

Decide irse a la ciudad de Cittaducale. Solo confiaba en Dios que tenia algo muy especial para él, al llegar al convento el padre guardián lo lleva a la capilla, delante de un crucifijo, descarnado, desfigurado, consumido, chorreante de sangre. Por la tarde de 1544 ingresa al convento con 28 años de edad, a los 10 días de entrar. Viste el sayal enseguida, sale para Fiuggi. Donde empezaba su primer año de prueba en el noviciado.

El 18 de Mayo de 1545 hizo sus votos, después de 1547 tuvo que regresar a Roma donde se convirtió, por santa obediencia en El santo de las calles de Roma, donde por 40 años cumplió su oficio muy bien ganando muchas almas para Dios, siempre se le veía rezando el  Santo Rosario. El 27 de Abril de 1587 Fray Félix cayó enfermo, desde entonces no salió del convento. En la mañana del mes de Mayo del mismo año miro a la Santísima Virgen rodeada de Ángeles  venir al encuentro de su hijo. El fiel Félix, saludándola dijo: “ O sagrado convite” mirando al cielo entrego su alma. El 28 de Mayo de 1587 muere  con solo 72 años de edad el tan querido santo de las calles de Roma.

El 1712  es declaro santo por el papa Inocencio XI.

This month of May is dedicated to honor the Virgin Mary Mother of God, is a time to reflect on her motherhood and the precious fruit of her womb our Lord Jesus Christ. On this Easter Season the Lord is inviting us to remain in him to be able to produce fruit of good deeds in our daily lives.  Also the beauty of Spring gives us abundant of flowers to invite all of us to bear fruit.

“I am the vine, you are the branches. Whoever remains in me and I in him will bear much fruit, because without me you can do nothing.  Anyone who does not remain in me will be thrown out like a branch and wither; people will gather them and throw them into a fire and they will be burned.  If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask for whatever you want and it will be done for you.  By this is my Father glorified, that you bear much fruit and become my disciples.  As the Father loves me, so I also love you. Remain in my love”. (John 15,7)

EL BUEN PASTOR

Jesús es el buen pastor que conoce y ama sus ovejas las llamas por su nombre.  Somos su rebaño. Él nos conoce y se arrima a cada uno de nosotros y ansía hacernos llegar a una comunión con el padre.

Jesús es la puerta por la que es preciso que entremos al redil, que es la esperanza, porqué es capaz de dar al hombre el bien absoluto: La Salvación. Él nos vuelve a revelar todo su amor por nosotros.

Jesús, pastor y sustento de las almas, guía seguro de la vida, tu que nos conoces, haznos capaces de reconocer tu voz, de sentir el calor de tu presencia que nos envuelve y nos acerca cada día  a tu llamado siguiendo sin resistencia y sin miedo llegaremos a los prados verdes a las fuentes frescas de tu misericordia donde nos harás descansar para toda la eternidad.

El día 19 de Abril del año en curso se llevó a cabo el capítulo de elecciones  para nueva Abadesa en nuestro monasterio, presidido por el Excelentísimo Señor Obispo Daniel Flores  Obispo de la Diócesis de Brownsville, Tx.

Dimos inicio en la  Capilla de San José, ante el Santísimo Sacramento, pidiendo las luces del Espíritu Santo con el canto Veni, Creator Spiritus, posteriormente nos dirigimos en procesión rezando la letanía de todos los Santos hacia la sala capitular donde se llevó a cabo la elección con los ritos tradicionales.  El  Obispo Flores después de la votación proclamo  a  nuestra  hermana Luz María Leyva Duarte como nuestra nueva Madre. Después  de  felicitarla procedimos a la elección de la Vicaria siendo electa la hermana Beatriz Ayala y como consejera la hermana Martha García.

Concluimos la reunión capitular con la bendición de nuestro Obispo quien con sencillez  convivio con nosotras después de la reunión en la comida que preparamos para festejar a nuestra madre.

 Su espiritualidad se basa en el misterio de la Divina Misericordia, que ella meditaba en la Palabra de Dios y contemplaba en lo cotidiano de su vida. El conocimiento y la contemplación del misterio de la Divina Misericordia desarrollaban en ella una actitud de confianza de niño hacia Dios y la caridad hacia el prójimo. “Oh Jesús mío -escribió- cada uno de tus santos refleja en sí una de tus virtudes, yo deseo reflejar tu Corazón compasivo y lleno de misericordia, deseo glorificarlo. Que tu misericordia, oh Jesús, quede impresa sobre mi corazón y mi alma como un sello y éste será mi signo distintivo en esta vida y en la otra” (Diario 1242).

Santa Faustina era una fiel hija de la Iglesia a la que amaba como a Madre y como el Cuerpo Místico de Jesucristo. Consciente de su papel en la Iglesia, colaboró con la Divina Misericordia en la obra de salvar a las almas perdidas. Con este propósito se ofreció como víctima cumpliendo el deseo del Señor Jesús y siguiendo su ejemplo. Su vida espiritual se caracterizó por el amor a la Eucaristía y por una profunda devoción a la Madre de la Divina Misericordia.

Los años de su vida en el convento abundaron en gracias extraordinarias: revelaciones, visiones, estigmas ocultos, la participación en la Pasión del Señor, el don de bilocación, los dones de leer en las almas humanas, de profecía y de desposorios místicos. Un contacto vivo con Dios, con la Santísima Madre, con ángeles, santos y almas del purgatorio: todo el mundo extraordinario no era para ella menos real que el mundo que percibía a través de los sentidos.

Colmada de tantas gracias extraordinarias sabía, sin embargo, que no son éstas las que determinan la santidad. En el Diario escribió: “Ni gracias, ni revelaciones, ni éxtasis, ni ningún otro don concedido al alma la hace perfecta, sino la comunión interior de mi alma con Dios. Estos dones son solamente un adorno del alma, pero no constituyen ni la sustancia ni la perfección. Mi santidad y perfección consisten en una estrecha unión de mi voluntad con la voluntad de Dios” (Diario 1107).

El Señor Jesús escogió a santa Faustina por secretaria y apóstol de su misericordia para, a través de ella, transmitir al mundo su gran mensaje. “En el Antiguo Testamento -le dijo- enviaba a los profetas con truenos a mi pueblo. Hoy te envío a ti a toda la humanidad con mi misericordia. No quiero castigar a la humanidad doliente, sino que deseo sanarla, abrazarla con mi Corazón misericordioso” (Diario 1588).

“During his earthly life Jesus announced his Paschal mystery by his teaching and anticipated it by his actions. When his Hour comes, he lives out the unique event of history which does not pass away: Jesus dies, is buried, rises from the dead, and is seated at the right hand of the Father “once for all.”His Paschal mystery is a real event that occurred in our history, but it is unique: all other historical events happen once, and then they pass away, swallowed up in the past. The Paschal mystery of Christ, by contrast, cannot remain only in the past, because by his death he destroyed death, and all that Christ is - all that he did and suffered for all men – participates in the divine eternity, and so transcends all times while being made present in them all. The event of the Cross and Resurrection abides and draws everything toward life.

Happy Easter!

On the evening of Palm Sunday, April 1, 2012 many members of the First, Second and Third Order of Saint Francis gathered together in the garden of Our Lady of Light Monastery to commemorate the 800^th anniversary of the consecration of Saint Clare of Assisi.

 From the monastery garden they processed with palms in their hands to the Oratory of Saint Patrick’s,  there a beautiful celebration of Evening Prayer took place.

After the chanting of the psalms a reading and visual reflection took place: Clare (a young woman, friend of the sisters played Saint Clare) approached the altar and after lighting her candle in the paschal light she passed it though the church until it reached  to all the members of the Franciscan family. Signifying with this play how the light of Christ had passed through Clare to many members of the church through out this 8 hundred years.

This Palm Sunday 2012 the Franciscan Family rejoices greatly as we celebrate the 800th Anniversary of the Consecration to the Gospel  life of Clare of Favarone. Clare a Nobel Lady of Assisi left her home and richest to embrace a life of evangelical poverty. On Palm Sunday 1212 Clare entered in to the Holy Week to embrace the Crucify one, as she longed to imitate him in his sufferings. This desire is very well express in her Letter to Agnes of Prague:  

“Gaze upon, examine, contemplate, most noble queen, desiring to follow your spouse, who is more beautiful than the sons of humankind, and who for your salvation became the vilest of men, despised, struck, and flogged repeatedly over his entire body, dying while suffering the excruciating torments of the cross.  If you suffer with him, with him you will reign, grieving with him, with him you will rejoice, dying with him on the cross of tribulation, with him you will possess mansions in heaven among the splendors of the saints, and your name will be recorded in the Book of Life and will bring you glory among men and women. This is why you may forever in eternity share the glory of the heavenly kingdom rather than what is earthly and transitory, eternal goods instead of those that perish, and why you will live forever and ever”.

El sábado 24 de marzo las Hermanas Clarisas Capuchinas del Monasterio de Nuestra Señora de la Luz tuvieron un retiro vocacional en el que participaron algunas jóvenes. El retiro tenía como finalidad reflexionar sobre el propio llamado acompañadas  por Santa Clara de Asís, sobre todo en este  mes en que se cumplen 800 años de que ella   se consagro a Jesucristo.

Damos gracias al Señor por darnos a Nuestra madre Santa Clara como modelo de amor y seguimiento a Jesucristo pobre  crucificado.

La noche del  18 de marzo de 1212 Santa Clara de Asis huye de su casa a la Iglesia de la Porciuncula donde San Francisco la consagra a Jesucristo.

“Entre tantos beneficios como hemos recibido y estamos recibiendo cada dia de la liberalidad de nuestro Padre de las misericordias. Por los cuales debemos mayormente rendir acciones de gracias al mismo Señor de la gloria, uno de los mayores es el de nuestra vocación;  y cuanto esta es más grande y más perfecta, tanto más deudora le somos”. (Testamento de Santa Clara)

Con gran alegría y júbilo celebramos los 800 años de la Consagración de Nuestra Madre Santa Clara y al igual que ella nuestra hermana María de los Ángeles Cuevas iniciará su vida consagrada recibiendo el santo hábito de Clarisa Capuchina  en el Monasterio de Santa Verónica  Giuliani en Wilmington, DE.

“ Among the other gifts that we have received  and do daily receive from our benefactor, the Father of mercies and for which we must express the deepest thanks to the glorious Father of Christ, there is our vocation, for which, all the more by way of its being more perfect and greater, do we owe the greatest thanks to him.” (Testament of Saint Clare )

With joy and jubilation, we celebrate the eight hundred anniversary of our mother St. Clare’s consecration. Like St. Clare, our sister Maria de los Angeles Cuevas begins her consecrated life by Receiving the habit of the Capuchin Poor Clares in the Monastery of St. Veronica Giuliani in Wilmington, DE

We are celebrating the 800th anniversary of the Consecration of Saint Clare, as part of the program celebrations for this year sister Adriana Gonzales from the Monastery of Our Lady of Light created a new bracelet with a prayer of Saint Clare, which is available in all our communities.

Last month we had the visit of three of our sisters: sister Leticia from Wilmington, sister Frances and sister Lupita from Amarillo, thanks be to God sister Lupita and Frances were able to stay for a whole month with us, we really enjoy their companionship.

With their help we were able to work on the bracelets of Saint Clare, and now have them ready, we had a lot of fun working with them.

Oh Glorious St. Clare, handmaid of the Lord!

On Palm Sunday you left the world,

leaving behind your riches,

to embrace a life

of poverty, chastity and obedience.

Help us to love our God as you did:

to love Him in His Incarnation,

in his life, and on the Cross.

Help us to weep for our sins

and trust in God’s mercy and love.

Through the Cross of the Lord,

you healed the sick, provided for the hungry,

converted sinners

and delivered them from evil.

Your life was full of love and care for others.

Oh St .Clare, may the light of Christ that illumined your life

draw us to love Him with undivided love.

Oh Mother Clare, ask God to heal the sick,

convert the sinners, provide for the hungry,

and  deliver us from evil.

Through Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior.

PLENARY  INDULGENCE!!

In honor of the jubilee celebration of the 800th anniversary of the founding of the Order of the Poor Clares, our Holy Father, Benedict XVI has graciously granted a Plenary indulgence which may be gained once a day between April 2011 and August 12, 2012.

TO GAIN THE INDULGENCE, besides the usual conditions of  a) Sacramental Confession, b) Eucharistic Communion and c) Prayer for the intentions of the Pope, one is required to: visit the chapel of the Poor Clares spending some time in pious meditation concluding with:

-          The Our Father

-          The Creed

-          Invocations to: the Blessed Virgin Mary, St Francis of Assisi and St. Clare of Assisi.

-          One may also gain this indulgence by participating in any of the jubilee celebrations. This indulgence may be applied for the souls in Purgatory.
